UPDATE (May 15, 2024): Sheriff’s Office Arrests Suspect in February 8 Shooting

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a shooting that occurred on February 8, 2024 at a gas station located at SE Sunnyside Road and SE 122nd Avenue. Detectives believe Javier Raul Ceniceros attempted to steal a 22-year-old man’s vehicle and shot the victim in the leg.

Detectives identified a second suspect, a 17-year-old, and referred theft and assault charges to the Clackamas County Juvenile Department.

Ceniceros was booked into the Clackamas County Jail on the following charges:

  • First degree robbery
  • First degree assault with a firearm
  • Second degree assault with firearm
  • Illegal use of a weapon
  • Threatening
  • Fourth Degree Assault

Bail is set at $250,000. Ceniceros is also being held on outstanding Multnomah County arrest warrants (attempting to elude a police officer, unlawful possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment).

Detectives are still working to identify a third person who was with these suspects.

The matter is still under investigation.

Earlier (Feb. 8, 2024): Sheriff’s Office requests information after man shot

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a gas station located at the intersection of SE Sunnyside Road and SE 122nd Avenue.

Officers arrived and found a 22-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim reported that a man who was with two other individuals attempted to forcibly steal his car. Faced with the victim’s resistance, one of them shot him. After the shooting, the three individuals fled in a vehicle.

Gas station employees who heard the gunshot rushed outside to help the victim and called 911.

The victim received medical treatment at the scene before being transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

At this time, it does not appear that the victim and the suspects knew each other.

Detectives are actively pursuing leads to locate the individuals involved. They are urging anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information that could help the investigation to call them.
