Sheriff: Man accused of murdering his girlfriend

ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. — The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office announced it has arrested LJ McCoy, Jr., 50, and charged him with the second-degree murder of his longtime girlfriend, Ashley Thomas , 38 years old.

“On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, just before 1:00 a.m., the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office received a telephone call in reference to a disturbance in which a witness heard glass shattering and banging. fire in the area of ​​Old Spanish Trail and Billings. Lane in Boutte,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

When officers arrived on scene, they were approached by a man, later identified as McCoy, Jr., who directed them to a woman who had been shot and later turned out to be Thomas.

The sheriff’s office says officers quickly developed probable cause that McCoy had shot Thomas and arrested him for his murder.

McCoy was taken into custody and transported to the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center where he was booked and charged with one count of 2nd degree murder.
