Three people arrested following seizure of ‘offensive weapons’ in Longford

Three people are to appear in court after Gardaí seized a number of offensive weapons in Longford on Sunday evening following a search of a vehicle.

At around 11.45pm on Sunday, May 12, patrolling gardaí stopped and searched the car on Athlone Road, in Ballymahon, a small town in south Longford.

A number of what Gardaí described as “offensive weapons” were seized by officers and two men aged in their 20s and a juvenile were arrested at the scene.

The trio were detained at a Garda station in Co Longford under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in connection with the seizure.

All three men have since been charged and are due to appear at Longford District Court tomorrow morning, Tuesday 14 May 2024, at 10.30am. A Gardaí spokesperson said investigations into the seizure were ongoing.
