Law enforcement officers attempt to serve arrest warrant after K9 stabbed

Three Greenville County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man after he stabbed a K9 while trying to execute an arrest warrant Monday afternoon.

According to Greenville Sheriff’s Lt. Ryan Flood, deputies were assisting the Department of Homeland Security in executing an arrest warrant around 3 p.m. at a home on Pine Knoll Drive. Officers encountered a person outside the address near Woodlawn Cemetery.

A police K9 arrested the person, who then stabbed the dog at least once. Officers then shot the man, Flood said.

The man was transported to a Greenville hospital with at least one gunshot wound. He has not been identified. Sheriff’s Office K9 was taken to an emergency veterinarian, his condition was unknown.

The felony warrant originated in Spartanburg County, Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis said later Monday afternoon.

According to Flood, no officers were injured during the incident.

SLED is investigating the incident following requests from the GCSO and SCSO. The department is expected to release a critical incident community information video regarding the shooting at 8 a.m. on June 27.
