Pfizer has identified some antiviral compounds that could be used as coronavirus treatments

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Drugmaker Pfizer Inc said Monday that it has identified certain antiviral compounds it has in development that have the potential to inhibit coronaviruses and is engaging with a third party to test those compounds.

The company said it hopes to have results from this screen by the end of March, and if any of the compounds are successful, it hopes to begin testing them by the end of the year.

Mikael Dolsten, Pfizer’s chief scientific officer, was one of several pharmaceutical executives who met with US President Trump at the White House on Monday.
